D.A.I.S. - Digital Audio Interconnection System
Digital audio recording, broadcast and production facilities can now benefit from a combined conversion, distribution and reference system.
The Hardware | The Audio Service D.A.I.S. is a Digital Audio routing system, using the Yamaha YGDAI interface cards to provide the inputs and outputs. The 72 x 72 stereo router (72 crosspoints, 144 signal paths) rack frame accepts 14 single or 5 double height YGDAI cards to give up to 56 stereo inputs and outputs in the most common digital formats. These currently include: AES/EBU (with or without sample rate conversion), ADAT, TDIFII and Yamaha Y2. Three single height cards may be substituted by double height cards to provide analogue inputs and outputs.
Installing a mixture of YGDAI cards in the D.A.I.S. frame permits any digital or analogue source to be easily connected to digital audio mixers. Alternatively, by routing directly between the I/O cards, signals may be readily converted to and from the various analogue and digital formats. Inputs may also be routed to multiple outputs enabling the same signal to be distributed to several different destinations simultaneously.
All digital inputs and outputs are referenced to either the internal 44.1kHz and 48kHz clock, or an external Master/station Word-clock or AES reference. As most digital audio devices can synchronize to their digital inputs, the complete digital audio suite can be synchronized by connecting all signals via D.A.I.S. |
The Control Software | The D.A.I.S. router is controlled by a routing matrix software application running on a Windows`s 95/98/NT PC. The application permits each input and output to be named and the connections to be made by selecting the appropriate crosspoint on the matrix display. The matrix display can be configured into costum views which show only those inputs and outputs required. Views can be named, stored and recalled to and from a multilevel menu. Similarly, patch presets can be managed to enable rapid reconfiguration of the complete system, or just part of it.
Groups of views and presets are combined within an overall user or project file, so different setups can be readily maintained to meet the demands of multiple users and projects. Where systems incorporate a Yamaha 02R or 03D mixer, the D.A.I.S. software can run simultaneously a mixer management application. |
